erschweren. In der Untersuchung von Platt wird dieses
Problem direkt angesprochen. Ihre Gesprächspartner aus den
sozialwissenschaftlichen Projekten teilen ihr mit:
"... sometimes it was a continuous battle: you get a problem
that can be handled by hand in ten hours or by the machine
in half an hour if only the program works. Stuart was always
inclined to say the program will work and invest two, ten or
twenty hours in getting it to work ...
Und: "The tragedy about it is, that I'm sure in computer
programming terms what Terry did was absolutely masterly,
particularly with that kind of support in that kind of
installation, but the simple fact was it just didn't suit
our particular needs, and all his energies were tied up in
that so often in other things we were on short." (J. Platt,
a.a.O., S. 90)
"The irony of the situation is that in both these cases the
computer specialists themselves saw that something had gone
wrong, and explained that one of the reasons why they had
developed such elaborate programs was precisely because of
the division of labour. It seemed necessary to have very
detailed labelling of the data because other members of the
team were not going to have the same intimate familiarity
with the program, and might not understand what was going on
without it. In fact, in each of these cases when it came to
the real analysis some of the programming had to be redone
so that the output was effectively usable." (J. Platt,
a.a.O., S. 92)
Ergebnis
