PORTRAITS  BY  LAMPI
Tyrolese  painter.  We  note  a  realistic  painting
of  a  lively  old  lady  of  the  Riccobuono  family.
Many  such  portraits,  with  some  good  points
in  technique,  fail  in  others  as  this  does,  for
example,  in  the  drawing  of  the  arms  ;  but  all
are  valuable  witnesses  to  quaint  and  picturesque -
  costume  of  the  period  :  note  in  this  respect
the  Countess  Graziadei  (20),  rather  high  up,
by  Lampi,  and  his  Countess  Triangi  (27),  the
shrewd  lady  in  a  wonderful  gauze  cap.
From  this  we  enter  what  was  once  the
Bedroom  of  the  Duchess  (XIII.
decorated  with  a  frieze  by  Vasari  and  Stradano
about  1550,  showing  the  piazzas  of  Florence
with  festivals  and  tournaments  as  carried  on
there  in  old  times.  In  the  centre  of  the  coffered
ceiling  is  the  legend  of  “  the  good  Gualdrada
celebrated  for  her  virtue  in  the  history  of
Florence.
On  the  walls  are  hung  a  number  of  works
by  Italians  (Grassi,  Lampi,  Del  Frate,  Bacciarelli), -
  who  lived  in  Austria  and  Poland,
painting  the  nobles  of  those  and  adjacent
