Full text: Wehner, Sigrid: Exploring and visualizing event history data

The following text is the research project report on explorations and visualizations of
event history data and is submitted for the Diploma in Social Science Data Analysis at
the University of Essex.
In the first place I want to thank Karl Ulrich Mayer, not only for his permission to use
the life course data. He also supported and encouraged my studies at the Essex
Summer School. During my years of work in his department at the Max Planck
Institute for Human Development, I got to know his German Life History Study in so
many aspects.
Eugène Horber was an inspiring instructor on data exploration and visualization. He
showed the way to use fantasy, even in statistics.
I would also like to thank Ulrich Pötter for mathematical discussions, Heike Solga for
always being open to sociological conversation, and Elinor Scarbrough for her advice
during my summer school attendances.
