CHAPEL. It was here that the prisoners under sentence
of death passed their last moments. The frescoes are by
Giotto, and among them are portraits of Dante and Bru¬
netto Latini. Events in the life of St. Mary Magdalen by
the same. The St. Jerome and the Madonna are thought to
be by R. del Ghirlandaio. Two glass-cases near the door
contain nielli, enamels, jade and works in wood among
which there is the famous niello by Maso Finiguerra,
the inventor of Calcography (1452), representing the Co-
ronation of the Virgin. Other Paci in niello. The Cru-
cifixion, by Matteo Dei. A fine enamel of the French
school, representing the Holy Virgin on her throne. The
celebrated Deposition by Pollaiolo. The Virgin enthroned.
St. Paul (unfinished). J. C. with four angels; a work
in wood by A. Dürer. Adam and Eve, a Cross, St. John
the Baptist and other works by the same. The reading-desk
in the middle is of 1500. Around choral furniture of 1500.
Two enamelled crosses by Maso Finiguerra. In the Glass¬
case, chalices and holy ornaments of 1500. Bust of the
Bishop St. Ignatius of 1600. Piscatory Rings, one of
which belonged to Paul II and another to Pius III. In
the adjoining Sacristy are two frescoes, one of which
is thought to be by Cimabue and the other by, Gaddi.
