Benvenuti has represented, Moses, Aaron, David, S. John
the Baptist, and the four Evangelists.

On the first altar is a painting representing the Madonna,
Jesus and various Saints, unknown. — S. John the Baptist,
unknown.
Sagrestia Vecchia. — Architectured by F. Brunelleschi.
The two bronze gates, lateral to the chapel, are by Donatello, -
as well as the bas reliefs, the four Evangelists at
the bases of the Cupola, and the four lunettes beneath the
arch.
In the middle of the pavement is the marble sepulchre of
Giovanni d’Averardo dei Medici, by Donatello.
In a hall contiguous to the Sacresty is a marble basin attributed -
to Donatello. — The painting representing the birth
of Jesus Christ is by Raffaello del Garbo.

of this library were begun in 1524 after the designs
of Michelangiolo Buonarroti.—The works were stopped for many -
years, and were continued during the decline of Michelangiolo, -
who was al Rome. It is said thal the architects were
not capable of putting together the materials prepared by
Buonarroti for the great staircase of the vestibule, according
