to  the  edifice,  by  artists  and  architects  of  great  name.  The
ornaments,  with  thetwo  elevations  of  the  doors  ofthe  Sacresty,
are  by  Donatello;  the  terrace  at  the  lower  end  of  the  church
is  attributed  to  M.  Buonarroti,  as  well  as  the  lateral  entrance
corresponding  to  the  left  nave,  and  the  architecture  of  the
new  sacresty  and  of  the  Library  Laurenziana,  as  henceforth
we  shall  speak  of.  The  altars  of  the  chapel,  and  some  other
works,  which  cannol  be  confounded  with  the  Brunelleschi
architecture,  are  modern.
By  Brunelleschi  is  the  design  of  the  cloister,  where  the
statue  of  Paolo  Giovio  is,  sculptured  by  Francesco  da  S.
Gallo.

Veracini.  —  The  Marriage  of  the  Madonna  R.  Fiorentino.  -S. -
  Lorenzo,  Niccola  Lapi.  —  The  Assumption,  Unknown.
—  Christ  on  the  Cross,  S.  Jerome,  S.  Francis  and  S.  Mary
Magdalene,  O.  Dandini.  —  S.  Jerome  in  the  Desert,  G.  Masini. -
  —  The  monument  of  the  artists  Benvenuti:  The  marble
bust,  Thorwaldsen:  the  bas  relief,  Costoli.  —  The  bas  reliefs
in  bronze  and  in  wood  on  the  pulpit,  were  executed  by  Donatello, -
  and  Bertoldo  his  scholar.  —  They  are  beautiful,  for
the  exquisite  exactitude  of  the  work.  —  The  Nativity  of  Jesus -
  Christ,  Cosimo  Rosselli.—  The  marble  tabernacle,  by  Desiderio -
  da  Sellignano.
Sagrestia  Nuova,  (new  Sacresty).  —  This  chapel  of  a  quadrangular -
  form  was  constructed  by  Michelangiolo;  it  contains
corinthians  pilasters  with  beautiful  capitals  ornamented  with
trophies  and  masks  by  Silvio  da  Fiesole,  a  very  celebrated  artist -
  for  this  kind  of  work.  —  On  the  right  hand  the  mausoleum
of  John  dei  Medici  Duke  of  Nemours,  sculptured  by  Michelangiolo: -
  The  statue  of  the  Duke  in  his  military  uniform  is
placed  in  a  niche,  beneath  which  is  the  sepulchre  surmounted
by  two  statues  representing  Day  and  Night.  —  Before  this
mausoleum,  on  the  opposite  side,  is  that  of  Lorenzo  dei  Medici
Duke  of  Urbino,  with  two  similar  figures  representing  Morning -
  and  Evening,  sculptured  by  Michelangiolo.  —  The  archidecture -
  of  the  altar,  Michelangiolo.  —  The  Madonna  and  the
