ti. — The Theatre of B. Ognissanti, one of the smallest in
the town, is here. The ticket costs half a paul. — Not far off
is the
Chiesa e Spedale di S. Giovanni di Dio, possessing a pic¬
ture by G. B. Leonardi, representing the Madonna with Our
Lord dead.—This church, formerly called S. Maria dell' Umillà,
belonged to a hospital for the poor, founded in 1400, close by
the house, where Simon Vespucci was born, as is remem¬
bered by an inscription on the front.
Chiesa e Convento d’Ognissanti. — This convent was
built by the Padri Umiliati established in Tuscany since the
thirteenth century, well received by the people, for having
given themselves to the wool trade, at that time flourishing
in Florence. — The neighbourhood of the convent, soon peo¬
pled with persons attached to the same trade; and as long as
those Fathers kept to their honourable activity, they were
loved and esteemed by the people. — It is believed that these
friars, contributed towards the building of the Carraja Bridge,
and of the mills close to the little Gate of the Cascine.
The Church of Ognissanti was repaired in 1627 by B. Pet¬
tirossi da Fiesole — The front is by Nigetti.

ware over the entrance on the façade is by L. della Robbia.
