This precious painting, which in one of the most ad¬
mirable works of Fra Angelico, was formerly in the
church of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence. It was brought
to this Gallery in 1825. — On wood. Small size fig.

The two Crucifixion, one above the door, and the
other above the large fresco by Bartolommeo are
works of Lorenzo Monaco.

The Coronation of the Virgin. A tryptich admirable
for the number and beauty of the different paintings
it contains. The Coronation of our Lady amidst a glory
of sixteen angels is painted in the middle panel ; the
two others bear then figures of Saints each. Several
smaller figures are among the various ornaments of
the frame. On the pinnacles above the principal panel
is the Holy Trinity, left and right of which are : the
Virgin, the Announcing Angel Gabriel. The predella
contains six diminutive compositions, four ot which
represent scenes from the life of St. Bernard, and the
two others The Birth of our Lord and The Adoration
of the Magi. Between the tryptich and the predella
there is an inscription in gold letters, with the fol¬
lowing words: HEC . TABVLA . FACTA . EST.
