been  the  pedestal  of  the  statue  which  was
erected  to  him  by  the  14  towns;  the  environs
would  have  been  dug  up  to  discover  the  statue,
had  not  this  operation  required  the  demolition
bf  a  great  number  of  houses.
In  this  same  square  is  a  beautiful  statue,
raised  on  a  pedestal,  which  bears  this  inscription -

This  statue  was  found  behind  the  house  belonging -
  to  the  viceroy  of  Toledo  at  Pozzuoli.
