COLOSSI. Coloſſos vocant moles ſtatuarum tur-
ribus pares, auctore Plinio lib. 34. cap. 7. Annotatum
eſt a Póponio Gaurico libro de ſculptura, ſtatuas eas, quæ
intra humani habitus staturam fierent, vocari ſigna, & ſigilla, cubitales, palmares ue, & ſi quæ eſſent harũ quo-
tæ partes. Dici autem pariles, cum eius qui exprimitur
staturam vndi præſentabimus, dari benemeritis, ac
ſapientibus viris. Magnas vero eſſe, cum infra ſeſquial-
teram ſtaturæ continebuntur, dicari Regibus, & Impe-
ratoribus, ſicut maiores, idest, quæ ad alteram excreue-
rint, ſo [?] lis Heroibus, Maximæ autem hoc eſt quando ter
bumani corporis ſtatura continebitur, itẽ rurſusac rur-
ſus ̈uis eas ſibi Romani et Barbari reges vẽdicauerint,
propriæ tamen ſunt Deorum, ſunt Coloſſi nominatæ,
vel ab auctore ipſo, vel ab noxia radiorum effuſione, quæ
