Dand. A flammâ exordium ducam, de qua experim. 10. Se-
bacea candela eius magnitudinis, vt earum octo libram vnam (vn-
ciarum 16) conſtituerent, ita ſuſpenſa, vt fermè in medio Re-
cipiente flamma arderet, poſt obſtructas rimas celerrimè agita-
tâ antliâ, extincta eſt intra minuri vnius ſemiſſem. Eadem
verò candela accenſa iterum ibi concluſa, ſed citrà antlię
agitationem, flammam ad aliquot minuta retinuit, & demum
extincta eſt.

Grad. Hoc poſtremum ideò contigiſſe, quia flamma pręfocata
eſt, manifeſtum videtur; nam cum cereoli ſex, cygnei calami
craſſitudinem ęmulantes ſinguli, in facem vnam fuiſſent compo-
ſiti, & accenſi, antequàm penitus claudi Recipiens poſſet,
nec expectatâ antliæ agitatioue, extincti ſunt: vnici verò ce-
reoli flamma euanuit intra horæ minutum à primâ exſu-
ctione.

Dand. Suffocari flammam in clauſo vaſe non inficior. Verùm,
anipſa ſe flamma extinguit? Fumo ſuffocatam dicent. Atillo eo-
dem, qui in flammâ erumpit, ipſamque flammam conſtit uit: id quod explicatione aliquâ indiget. Ardentem flammam iniectâ
humo comprimi & extingui faciliùs intelligimus; prohibentur ni-
mirum ab incumbente terrâ ſulphureæ particulæ, ne confertim
erumpant ex corpore ignito vnâ cum humore & ſalibus volatili-
bus; qua vehementi eruptione impeditâ non conſiſtit flamma. Similiter affuſa affatim aqua ardentium lignorum, aut carbonum,
meatus obſtruit, & agitatos igniculos ſuo complexu detinens effi-
cit, ne pergant lignum diſſoluere tanto impetu, quantus ad flam-
mam requiritur. Accenſæ candelæ aut Lucernæ ferreum cucullum
imponens, intrà illas anguſtias coërcet exilientes halitus, nec per-
mittit rareſcere; qui quaſi reflexi iterum cum oleo, aut cerâ, aut
ſebo commiſcentur, atque demum concreſcunt frigeſcentes. Ne-
que diſpari ratione igniculorum tumultum compeſcit, qui inflam-
matum ellychnium comprimit emunctorio illorum celerem mo-
tum cohibente. Sed flammâ excitari potiûs, quàm reſtingui
flammam oporteret, ſiquidem ex motu motum oriri conſenta-
neum eſt, & qui in priore flammâ erupere igniculi, non videntur
conſecuturæ alioqui flammæ igniculos impedire poſſe, ne com-
moueantur; nihil quippe in vas concluſum ingeſtum eſt, quod fa-
ciat anguſtias; nam igniculi ijdem exiliunt in flammâ, qui in can-
