DISSERTATIO De eo ſic Pomponius Mela lib. II. C. VII. Mare rapidum, & alterno curſu ſepties
die ac ſepties nocte, fluctibus invicem ver-
ſis, adeo immodtce fluens: ut ventos etiam
ac plenis velis navigia fruſtretur. Strabo
tamen lib IX, Plinius lib. II, cap. XCVII,
& alii (quibus adſcribendus fortean & Suidas) tantum die ac noctu ſimul ſepties
fluere contendunt. Sic Seneca in Hercu-
le Oetæo, Act. II. Sc. I. proſuge:

Euboica tellus, vertice immenſo tumens,
Pulſatur omni parte; Phryxeum mare
Scindit Caphæreus: ſervit hoc Austro
latus;

At qua nivoſi patitur Aquilonis minas,
Euripus und as flectit inſtabilis vagas,
Septemque curſus flectit & totidem re-
fert,

Dum laſſum Titan mergat Oceano ju-
bar.

Antiphilus Byzantius quodam Epigram-
mate ſenarium prodit numerum:

Ε\’νβοǐκοῦ κὸλποιο παλινσὶνητε θὰ-
λαοτα,
Πλαγκτὸν ὒσως, ἰσὶοισ ῥσὶμα-
? ?ιν α\’ντὶταλον,
Ἥελίω ḱῆν νυκ{τὶ} τεταγμυ\‘νον, ἐς
τρὶςἂπιςον
