ſpium alterum ac per ſe ipſum, Mare eſſe. Ejuſdem mentis Ariſtoteles lib. 11. Me-
teoror. cap. I. Hos alii multi ſequuti quo-
rum princeps Ptolemæus in ſua geogra-
phia accutatioris locorum cognitionis
beneficio. Ipſe Strabo, niſi, ut notavit Vit
magnus, planis expreſſiſque verbis falſam
ſubdidiſſet ſententiam, potuiſſet abſque
negocio ex prioribus perſuadere Lectori,
credidiſſe ſe littoribus circumſeptum Ca-
ſpium exitu carere. Sic enim ait: κύκλω
? ?πείτην ςάλατταν. Sed mox omnia
corrumpit, & in aliam imprudens trahi-
tur opinionẽ, illis præcipue verbis; προς
{τ’’} Οἰκεανὸν {τ’’} πληροῦντα {τ’’} Κἀσπιον. Illud verum, A quas Oceani Caſpium ex-
cipere ſubtorraneo meatu, & exonerari
occultis ſub terram alveis & cryptis in
Euxinum. Quum enim maxima flumina
Caſpium influant (inter quæ ab Septem-
trione, Rha, hodie Volga; & Rhymnus,
Iaick; ab Ortu, Iaxartes, Cheſel; à Meridie,
Oxus, Abiamu; ab Occaſu denique alia
non pauca) neceſſe ſane fuit inſuſa, peręſer-
tim quum marinas ſtationes Flumina na-
turaliter adpetant, aliqua exire. Nam qui
recipiendis quotidie tot fluminum aquis
