74. QVO DIFFERVNT, INSVLA,
Peninſula, Iſthmus, & Continens.
CAP. XVII.

AB aquis igitur cùm omnis terra quadrifa-
riam ſecetur, Aut fit Inſula, aut Peninſula, aut
Iſthmns, aut Continens. Inſula itaque eſt ea
pars terræ, quæ à maiorib. terræ partibus ſe-
iuncta vndiq; aquis alluitur. Vt Rhodus, Sici
lia, Corſica, Taprobana, Iaua, America, Anglia
Iſlanda. Peninſula ſeu Cherſoneſus quę planè
Inſula non eſt, neque continens, ſed vndique
ferè aquis clauſa, aliqua tamẽ anguſtia cõtinenti annectitur. Et ſunt
quatuot inſigniores. Vt Peloponneſus arx totius Græciæ quondam
dicta, nun [?] c autem Moræa dicitur, in mari Mediterraneo ſita. Aurea
Cherſoneſus in mari Indico meridionali. Cimbrica in mare Germa
nicum ſeſe extendit. Taurica Cherſoneſus in pontũ Euxinum circa
Boſphorum Thraciũ procurrit, vbi & Mœotis exonerat pontũ, circa
quam eriam Danubius cantatiſſimus Rhetiam, Boiariam (olim à Ro
manis & Græcis Vindelicia dicta) vtramq; Pannoniã, Datiã & Miſiã
præterfluens, pontũ ſubit & emoritur. Iſthmus dicitur terra inter duo
maria concluſa, propriè tamen iter ad Cherſoneſum porrigit. Vt
Corinthiacus inter Achaiam & Peloponneſum, quem nauigabili al-
ueo Demetrius rex, Dictator Cæſar, C. Princeps Domitius, Nero,
infauſto (vt omnium patuit exitu) incepto, perfodere tentauerunt. De quibus lege Pli. nat. hiſt. lib. 4. cap. 4. Dorſum Arabiæ inter Si-
num Arabicum & mare Ægyptíacum. Dania quę ducit iter ad Cym
bros, & tota Italia. Continens dicitur omnis terra ſolida ſiue fixa,
quæ nec Infula, nec Peninſula, nec Iſthmus eſt. Sed tota ſibi conſtat
& cohæret, aliquantulum tamen (quod nullius eſt momenti) ſinibus
maris fracta conſpicitur. Vt Miſnia dulcis patria. Saxonia, Bohemia,
Boiaria, Datia, Turingia, Pannonia, Sueuia, & c.
