Full text: Bithynius, Theodosius: Theodosii Tripolitae Sphaericorum libri tres

quid ad cæleſtem doctrinam pertinet, id omne
vel ſphæricis ex elementis, vel ex triangulorum
doctrina, vel ex arcuum denique chordis (vnde
omnis Sinuum, omnis linearum Tangentium ac
Secantium diſciplina manauit) peracute demon
ſtrat: vt fruſtra laborem operamq́; ſuſcipiat, quiſ-
quis hoc ſine præſidio Demonſtrationes illas
conetur attingere. Mitto quanta in Gnomoni-
ca, quanta in Coſmographia, Geodæſia, & vni-
uerſa pene Geometria earum rerum ſit oppor-
tunitas: ne aut in re perſpicua ſim multus, aut
aliena diſputatio videatur. Quocirca fatebor,
quod res eſt, Sapientiſſime Princeps, multas me
annorum vigilias ac labores pro eo amore, quo
ad Mathematicas voluptates incendor, in ea-
rum, quas dixi, rerum planam ac ſolidam cogni-
tionem contuliſſe: & lucubrationes quaſdam
ſepoſuiſſe, meos duntaxat in vſus. Verum vt
eruditorum, & eorum, qui ſcripta noſtra tracta-
bant, Gnomonica præſertim, vbi Sinuum, Trian
gulorum, cæterarumq́; rerum frequens incidit
mentio, poſtulationi concederem; commode
me facturum exiſtimaui, ſi quæ priuatos in vſus
temere collegiſſem, ea in ordinem adducta, & in
vnum quaſi coacta corpus in commune confer-
