Hoſtis enim ſiquam partem muri occupauerit, quire
pugnabunt, reſcindent, & ſiceleriter adminiſtraue
rint, non patientur reliquas partes turrium muriq́
hoſtem penetrare, niſiſe uoluerit prœcipitare. Tur
res itaq́ rotundœ, aut poligoniœ ſunt faciendœ, qua-
dratas enim machinœ celerius diſſipant, ꝙ angulos
arietes tundendo frangunt, in rotundationibus autẽ
(uticuneos) ad œntrum adigendo, lœdere non poſ-
ſunt. Item munitiones muri turriumq́ aggeribus cã
iũctœ maxime tutiores ſunt, ꝙ neq́ arietes, neq́ ſuſ
foſſiones, neq́ machinœ, cœter œ eis ualent nocere. Sed non in omnibus locis eſt aggeris ratio faciẽda,
niſi ꝗbus extra murum, ex alto loco, plano pede ac-
ceſſus fuerit ad mœnia oppugnanda. Itaq́ in eiuſ-
modilocis primũ foſſœ ſunt faciẽdœ, latitudinibus & altitudinibus ꝗ̃ ampliſſimis, deinde fundamẽtũ mu
rideprimẽdũ ẽ intra alueũ foſſœ, & id extruẽdũ eſt
eacraſſitudine, ut opus terrenũ facile ſubſtineatur.

Item interiore parte ſubſtructionis, fundamentum
diſtans ab exteriore introrſus amplo ſpatio conſti-
tuendum eſt, ita uti cohortes poſſint, quemadmodum
in acie inſtructœ, ad defendẽdum ſupra latitudinem
aggeris conſiſtere. Cum autem fundamenta ita di-
ſtãtia inter ſe fuerint conſtituta, tũcinter ea alia trãſ
uerſa coniuncta exteriori & interiori fundamento,
pectinatim diſpoſita, quemadmodũ ſerrœ dentes ſol-
uentes ſe collocentur.
