Full text: Vitruvius: M. Vitrvvivs Per Iocvndvm Solito Castigatior Factvs Cvm Figvris Et Tabvla Vt Iam Legi Et Intelligi Possit

Huius autem rei ratio explicabitur ſic, Frons loci, quæ in æde cõſtituta fue
rit, ſi tetraſtylos facienda fuerit, diuidatur in partes vndecim ſemis p̃ter cre
pidines & proiecturas ſpirarũ, Si ſex erit columnarum, in partes decem & octo, Si octaſtylos conſtituetur diuidat̃ in. xxiiii. & ſemiſſem, Item ex his
partibus, ſiue tetraſtyli, ſiue hexaſtyli, ſiue octaſtyli, vna pars ſumat̃ [?] , ea
erit modulus, cuius moduli vnius erit craſſitudo colũnarum, Intercolum-
nia ſingula p̃ter mediana modulorum duorũ & moduli quartæ partis, me-
diana in fronte & poſtico, ſingula ternum modulorum, Ipſarum columna
rum altitudo erit modulorum octo & dimidiæ moduli partis, Ita ex ea di-
uiſione intercolumnia altitudineſ columnarum habebunt inſtam ratio-
nem, Huius exemplar romæ nullum habemus, ſed in aſia Teo octaſtylon li
beri patris, Eas autem ſymmetrias conſtituit hermogenes, qui etiã primus
octaſtylum pſeudodipteriue rationem inuenit, Ex dipteri enim ædis ſym-
metria ſuſtulit interiores ordines columnarum. xxxviii. ea ratione ſum-
ptus operiſ compendia fecit, Is in medio ambulationi laxamentum egre
gie circa cellam fecit, de aſpectu nihil imminuit, ſed ſine deſiderio ſuper-
uacuorum conſeruauit authoritatem totius operis diſtributione. Ptero-
matos enim ratio & columnarum circum ædem diſpoſitio ideo eſt inuẽta,
vt aſpectus propter aſperitatem intercolũniorum haberet authoritatem. Præterea ſi ex imbrium aquæ uis occupauerit, & ĩtercluſerit hominũ mul-
titudinem, vt habeat in æde circa cellam cum laxamento liberam morã,
Hæc autem ita explicantur in pſeudodipteris ædium diſpoſitionibus, qua-
re uidetur acuta magna ſolertia effectus operum hermogenes feciſſe, reli
quiſſe fontes, vnde poſteri poſſent haurire diſciplinarum rationes, Aedi
bus areoſtylis columnæ ſic ſunt faciendæ, vti craſſitudines earum ſint par-
tis octauæ ad altitudines, Item in diaſtylo dimetiẽda eſt altitudo columnæ
in partes octo & dimidiam, & vnius partis columnæ craſſitudo collocetur,
In ſiſtylo altitudo diuidatur in nouem & dimidiã partem, & ex eis una ad
craſſitudinem columnæ detur, item in picnoſtylo diuidẽda eſt altitudo in
partes decem, & eius vna pars facienda eſt columnæ craſſitudo, Euſtyli au-
tem ædis columnæ (vt diaſtyli) in octo partes altitudo diuidatur & dimi-
diam: & eius vna pars conſtituatur in craſſitudine imi ſcapi, ita habebitur
pro rata parte intercolumniorum ratio, Quemadmodũ enim creſcunt ſpa
tia inter columnas, ꝓportionibus adaugẽdæ ſunt craſſitudines ſcaporum,
Nã ſi in aræoſtylo nona aut decima pars craſſitudinis fuerit, tenuis & exi
lis apparebit, ideo quod per latitudinem intercolumniorum aer cõſumit,
& imminuit aſpectus ſcaporum craſſitudinem, Contra vero pycnoſtylis ſi
octaua pars craſſitudinis fuerit, propter crebritatẽ & anguſtias intercolum
niorum, tumidam & inuenuſtam efficiet ſpeciẽ, Ita generis operis opor-
tet perſequi ſymmetrias, Etiã angulares columnæ craſſiores faciẽdæ ſunt
